The following depiction of our dive sites in text form only scratches the surface. If a picture tells a thousand words, persons who have dived our special island now possess memories that speak volumes. While the flat, scrubby, cactus covered islands of the Turks & Caicos leave much to be desired above the ocean's surface, underwater the beautiful vibrant coral reefs and massive walls are teeming with a spectacular array of marine wildlife. If you're into wall diving and enjoy the adventure of long boat rides to remote dive sites that are among the best in the Caribbean, dive the legendary Turks & Caicos. Top diving is found all over, but one of the most popular areas are the West Caicos, fringed by the Molasses Reef, which harbors the remains of the oldest known shipwreck in the Western Hemisphere, dating all the way from 1509! The reefs off the west shore are protected within West Caicos Marine National Park. Other prime dive sites include Elephant Ear Canyon, named for the biggest sponges found in the Turks and Caicos, at 95 feet (29m). The “Wanda Lust” is known for its plankton-rich waters that attract whales and eagle rays and “Kelly's Folly” for it’s lush coral garden. The HMS Endymion resting in the same area is 18th-century British warship bristling with cannons. The islands have unsurpassed whale watching. Spot the humpbacks off South Caicos in January and February, and the Mouchoit Bank, south of Grand Turk, has the only known breeding grounds for North Atlantic humpbacks. The islands' unofficial and much cherished mascot is JoJo, a 7ft (2m) male bottlenose dolphin who's been swimming with tourists off the northern shores of Provo's Grace Bay beach and Pine Cay since leaving his pod in 1983.
